A Journey of Self-Discovery (Featuring: The McLobster)

I’ve already mentioned that I eat a lot of McDonald’s. I like to try everything so I don’t have the same thing twice. I’ve also mentioned the Great Canadian Taste Adventure. Now it’s time for the McLobster. Being that it is something new, I had to try it. So I did. Here’s what it looks like:

TV Show Roundup

I spend most of my spare time watching TV shows. I don’t know why but I just seem to like everything that’s on right now. It doesn’t matter what genre it is, be it comedy, drama, reality, there is always something getting my attention. As of right now, I am watching 16 shows but during the peak period in the fall, the number could reach the 40-45 range. I will now say a few words about each of the shows I am currently watching:

Happyish

A man working at an ad agency (everyone’s heard of this one) struggles to figure out how to find happiness and finding his own place within a changing world becoming more youth-centered. The show often criticizes the direction in which society is heading often by highlighting the silliness within current events and quoting philosophers and relating their ideas to today’s world.

True Detective

A crime anthology series following a police investigation and the lives of those involved from either side of the law. I don’t know much else about it since the newest season hasn’t technically started yet but I know it takes place in California.

Penny Dreadful

A bunch of British people in London and an American come together to fight supernatural forces and the Devil. The shows pulls ideas and characters from the horror stories we all know and it works. This particular season is focusing on a coven of witches seemingly aligned with the devil and they have been paying a little more attention to the main female character.

Halt and Catch Fire

This shows dramatizes the boom of computers in the early 1980s. It follows this nerdy guy and his cool but nerdy wife, this pretentious businessman guy, and a computer prodigy. The businessman’s story now takes place away from everyone else while the wife and the prodigy are working together with their start-up online gaming company. The husband is just trying to find his place in the world while his relationship with his wife is evolving. The computer lingo is nice being a computer science major myself and the actors really play well off of each other.

Last Week Tonight

It’s just like The Daily Show but with the British guy from The Daily Show and with better writing and production values.

The Whispers

This supernatural force makes kids do weird stuff. This lady FBI agent is investigating and she is trying to figure out what “it” is and is trying to stop “it” before it destroys the world as we know it.

Murder in The First

These 2 San Francisco cops investigate a crime from beginning to end and those responsible are prosecuted from beginning to end. It’s like Law and Order if they spent a whole season following 1 case.

America’s Got Talent

I don’t think this needs much of a description.

Masterchef

This neither.

Aquarius

David Duchovny tries to find a rich girl who ran away from home with Charles Manson. There’s other stuff going on but who cares. The 1960s vibe is pretty cool too.

Wayward Pines

A Secret Service agent investigates the disappearance of 2 fellow agents in the town of Wayward Pines, Idaho. A seemingly normal looking town may not be what it seems. Will he be able to escape alive? Probably not, but I would love to be proven wrong.

Hannibal

This is probably the best show on TV right now. This show explores the relationship between renown psychiatrist, Hannibal Lecter, and FBI criminal profiler, Will Graham. It is as beautiful to look at as it is violent. It is also as superbly acted as it is written. It would be a crime to miss this.

Whose Line is it Anyway?

An improve comedy show which consistently bring home hilarity and fun. This is an older clip but it is still gold.

Real Time with Bill Maher

Comedian Bill Maher hosts a round-table show where he and his guests discuss current events. It is funny and informative.

Orphan Black

A woman discovers that she is a clone and then her and her clone sisters band together to try to discover their origin. She quickly finds herself caught in the middle of a deadly conspiracy and must race to find answers about who she is and how many others there are just like her. The actress who plays all the clones is amazing. Each clone feels so unique, you forget they are all played by the same actress. Now there are male clones and that’s just making it worse for everyone involved.

I guess this is my longest post. Hopefully you gained some interest from my quasi-reviews and I will probably talk about more TV shows in the future.

Now That’s What I Call Addiction

I previously talked about how much television I watch. I like all kinds of TV. I watch dramas, comedies, reality shows, sporting events, etc. I’ve already covered this here and here. For as long as I can remember, I have been planning my TV viewing for the week. I even made a grid in a word file where I would have sub grids for every day of the week where each individual day was divided into prime time hours (8-11 Monday-Saturday and 8-12 Sunday). I would place all the shows I watch into each hour according to the TV guide website I consult weekly which is on Zap2it. Each individual TV show would each have a few links so I could watch it online if I happened to miss it. That was more for the past. Now, I am fortunate enough to have satellite TV where I have the option of time shifting so I have multiple chances to see an episode of a certain TV show. This comes in handy when it comes to recording. I use a hard drive/DVD recorder religiously. Mine happens to be a Magnavox MDR513H/F7

magnavox

It has a 500GB hard drive which holds up to 64 hours of high quality video which is enough for me since I usually delete a recorded program after I watched it. Every week I schedule all of my recordings according to my grid. If there is a conflict (since it can’t record multiple shows at once), this is when the time shifting comes in handy so I can just a record a later airing of a show. Sometimes it isn’t possible to find another airing so that is when I use the links to watch them online. If you look at the grid, you’ll see that it happens quite often. What I would do to distinguish them is I would color-code shows I record with one color and those I watch online in another. Also the shows that are not currently airing, I keep in another table along with their links for me to later insert into my day grids when I need them. If you look at those along with the shows I currently watch, you’ll see that I watch a lot of television. The grid that I’ve offered contains what I will be watching this week (without the colors).

A Few New Distractions (From Game of Thrones)

Bethesda had a conference last night, Game of Thrones also had their season finale but that’s not important right now. They talked about some of the games they are working on. There are only a few that I am really interested in, Fallout 4 and Doom (Doom 4).

Fallout 4

This is one that I have been waiting for a long time. Ever since Fallout 3 came out in 2008, I have been a huge fan of the series. This is evident from all the Fallout stuff I have purchased over the last few years. Fallout 3 is my second favorite game of all time (Half-Life 2 being the first). The open world, the story, the choice, that was something I never experienced before. The Elder Scrolls games kind of had that too but I was never into the whole fantasy thing. I was always more of a sci-fi fan.

When they showed off more Fallout 4 stuff, I was over the moon. The world in this game looks even bigger and more vibrant than 3. I suppose it isn’t too hard when 3 was mostly brown and grey. I like how this one starts before the war and then transitions post war. They also recorded dialogue for the playable characters where the male one is voiced by Troy Baker (I hear he’s big in this thing). There is also crafting in the game where you can build houses and then make settlements and have to defend them. You can also have multiple settlements. The amount of customization is mind blowing. Also the collector’s edition gets you a freakin’ Pip Boy.

The worse part is that I have to wait until November 10th to get it. (Shame, shame, shame … inside joke). Here’s a demo of it:

Doom (Doom 4)

There’s also Doom, it’s been 12 years since Doom 3. I played Doom 1 and 2 a lot. I liked the amount of action they had and how quickly it happened. Doom 3 was a little slower and more just things constantly popping up out of nowhere. What got me was the demo which was awesome:

I’ll probably almost be done Fallout 4 by Spring 2016 when the game comes out.

Where Nightmares Are Made

I have been working at a grocery store for nearly 7 years. People have come and gone, the store has changed, the way things are done has changed but what has the stayed the same is the PA system has not. The system would usually have announcements and play the pinnacle of easy listening music. The majority of the music is love songs because people shopping want to be constantly reminded of how alone they are. But most importantly, if a song were to play on a constant loop in hell, it would be this one:

You can always count on it to play at least once a day. Let it be in your nightmares from now on.
